Sushi Maki! Coral Gables, Miami! When I first stepped up the 2 small steps into Sushi Maki I remember thinking what a dull ceiling they had which was so viewable from the ground level. The restaurant was basically 4 sections and I suggested we would create floating murals for each section.
Before there was a train, a wall, even a spray can there was the blackbook, the iconic black hard cover sketchbook that every graffiti artist had, especially us graff heads from A&D high school.
Here is my collection, drawings, mini pieces from my original high school blackbook, all dated around 1982 to around 1986 along with my personal notes, thoughts and design ideas I was expressing so very early in my graffiti carrier
Sushi Maki, part 2. This delicious sushi chain is quickly becoming my yummiest client! They love graffiti, they love my style, they make great food! How can you not love that? When the client helps promote creativity the ideas flow like rivers! The mermaid representing the “fresh”ness of the seafood and the submarines, well they kind of represent that even if I paint mermaids, they too will have my dark spin on them too!
You can WATCH how it happened in just 2 days.
